Enhancing Instructional Practices for Students
ABOUT LEVEL UP
The LCCP Level Up Academy has been created to provide quality professional development experiences that will enhance the professional growth participants. At the same time, it will help us meet LDOE state requirements of providing hours of professional development and support to teachers in their early years of the teaching profession.
While the design of Level Up Academy is based on national, state, and local research, the topics of the sessions offered each year are selected based on the specific needs of the participants as well as years of student data to ensure best practices in place are in the best interest of students’ learning needs.
WHAT WE OFFER
PARTICIPATION
Level Up Academy is designed for teachers beginning their career as well as teachers that would benefit from enhancing their practices. Teachers that have taken the necessary steps to get state certified and are on a TAT (temporary authority to teach) or a PL (practitioner’s license) are prime candidates for Level Up, but certified professionals may also participate in this program.
MENTOR SUPPORT
The LCCP Level Up Academy offers new teachers a one-to-one relationship with an experienced mentor teacher for support offerings throughout the year. Teachers will be able to attend weekly PLC’s, meet with their mentor weekly or as needed, and attend LIVE observations to see mentor teachers implementing and modeling best practices with their students.
CULTIVATING FUTURE LEADERS
The LCCP Level Up Academy is two-fold. The main priority is to provide new teachers to the campus or experienced professionals seeking additional guidance with the support system they need to be successful. Mentees will receive extra support during their first years of education and mentors will gain the necessary skills to advance in their careers. The main objective, aside from supporting the new teachers, is to use mentees as future mentors as soon as their second or third year in education and secondly mentors interested in advancing to administration will receive the needed support from administration to do so.
IMPACT ON LEARNING
Level Up Academy will directly enhance teaching and learning in a positive way. Teachers will receive in-the-moment support as it pertains to all things related to creating an environment for effective learnings, using research-based strategies to deliver instruction, and teaching pedagogy specific to their individual classroom needs and experiences with students. This differs from textbook knowledge received in the courses teachers take to become certified. Those are extremely important but are not effective in isolation. Teachers need to know they have support when obstacles present themselves in the live learning environment with students. Focusing on the skills needed to create high quality teachers and teaching is at the very center of what it takes to create college and career-ready students.
